WOW, was that fun! We are pleased to report back that the races were quite a success. On Monday we started off with test laps where teams were given the opportunity to make adjustments to their vehicles. After a few minor adjustments, we had the two cars dialed in right where we wanted them and proceeded with the timed trials for the remainder of the day Monday. Tuesday had originally been designated as an entire day to run timed trials, but with the early morning rain, teams chose to take it easy and just run test laps until the track dried out. Timing resumed around 10:00 as temperatures climbed into the 80s. The track heated up and the tires became sticky, improving our lap times significantly. We are proud to announce that our newest addition to the lineup, the black s66 car clinched the first place position. We are all very proud of our team for putting together such a fantastic car, though we were not alone. All of our sponsors play a vital role in the progress and completion of our vehicles and we cannot thank them enough. This opportunity has provided students with tools and lessons that are unattainable from simply sitting in a classroom. Five days to go and these cars are ready! We would like to thank all of our sponsors for generously donating time, resources, and money to get us to where we are.
Do not forget to stop out by us at the Road America Motorplex next Monday and Tuesday, the 15th and 16th. It will be a great day for some racing and grilling out. The official schedule hasn't been released, and once that is available we will be sure to pass that along. Only 12 days remain until the big race day is here! We are in the process of doing final preparations, and would like to take a second to thank the Van Horn Automotive Group for the donation of our paint jobs. They're sure to set us apart from the rest of out competition. Speaking up setting ourselves apart, we have mounted our Kohler engine and are ready to leave everyone in the dust!
Make sure to follow along with us as we count down to race day. Once the race day schedule of events is available, we will update everyone with that information! Huge thank you to Kohler Engines for dyno testing our engine, helping us achieve optimal performance of our engine and giving students real world data to evaluate and learn from.
The countdown has begun as we are less than a month away from race day. We have been working on the engine mounting, finished up the front end and got the fiberglass shell fitted and headed to paint!
We are also happy to announce the we have been able to raise all of our needed funds for the car. Thank you to all of our sponsors that have contributed to this project. Without you, this awesome opportunity wouldn't be possible. Thank you! Last week a group of students traveled up to Fiberglass Solutions in Green Bay. They learned how to work with fiberglass as they set up molds and laid the material.
As the car is coming together, we have begun seeking out sponsors to help us put the finishing touches on the car. Last year we had the privilege of working with many local businesses to build a successful car. This year we are getting closer to our fundraising goal, but still need some help. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please visit the SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES tab in the top navigation menu. Thank you!
We are making great progress! Currently we are tacking up the roll bars and starting the engine mounts.
Things are starting to come together! The frame is mocked up and in the process of being welded together. Challenges have already begun presenting themselves, a big one being cutting the correct angles on the round tubing for the frame.
